The Octopus

"The Octopus" is a 4 x 4 antenna switching system that allows the operator to map 4 antennas to 4 radios in any combination.

Operation

Operation is simple, and consists of 3 steps:

Step 1: Using the top row of switches, point the chosen antenna's switch to your chosen radio.

Step 2: Using the bottom row of switches, point the chosen radio's switch to your chosen antenna.

Step 3: There is no step 3.

The radios are colour coded:

  • Radio 1: Red
  • Radio 2: Yellow
  • Radio 3: Green
  • Radio 4: Blue

Current Configuration

Currently, the octopus is configured as follows:

  • Antenna 1: 10/12/15/17/20M beam (tower 3)
  • Antenna 2: 160M loop
  • Antenna 3: 20M beam (tower 1)
  • Antenna 4: 40M dipole
  • Radio 1: Workstation 3 (WS3)
  • Radio 2: Workstation 4
  • Radio 3: Workstation 5
  • Radio 4: Workstation 0 (Remote Base)
